Pocket Typewriter first came to our attention when we were sourcing exhibitors for the wedding fair at Stancliffe Hall in Derby that was held back in Autumn 2011.

Like us, Pocket Typewriter is family business made up of brother and sister team Leckie & Jack who created their business as they both have a passion for design, colour and creativity with Jack having a clear talent for illustration.

The business began when Leckie and her now lovely husband proposed and they asked Jack to design their wedding invitations. He did and they just fell in love with them -literally! Since then their business has gone from strength to strength with 2011 being a really good year!

Leckie says ‘We have met and worked with some fabulous brides and grooms, working with them to create their perfect wedding stationery. We have had so much fun! We ‘ve met some other great suppliers through the fantastic wedding fairs we’ve exhibited at. Our illustrations have been featured in You & Your Wedding Magazine which was a big highlight of the year’

At the end of last year they also launched their greeting cards collection and these are now selling in some great little shops, including the fantastic Simply Chic, owned by the lovely Cathy Lavictoire one half of Vintage Chic Wedding Fair!

Inspirations

They are inspired by everything and everyone around them!

‘We always try to visit galleries, antique fairs, home and gift shows. It is our mission to carry on creating and developing ideas, making us different and exciting! That’s why we have created our 3D collections such as “A Country Wedding” and “Let’s Eat Cake” that offer something a little more unusual.’

They certainly have a signature style which is a gorgeous fusion of contemporary and vintage.

‘We love to create and so bespoke work for our lovely brides and grooms is something we enjoy doing so much, as it is an exciting challenge, it is so important that we achieve something that is loved by our clients. We love to work on and develop ideas, so we just ask our customers what they are thinking of and we then go from there!’

Another exciting year ahead

Jack and Leckie are looking forward to working with lots more wonderful couples and suppliers. You & Your Wedding Magazine have asked to work with them again on some of this year’s issues so watch this space!

‘We are very excited to be showing our greeting card collection at the Harrogate Home and Gift Show in July. This will be our first trade show, so fingers crossed it will be great!’

The most exciting thing to happen this year by far will be the arrival of Leckie’s first baby!! Good times ahead for this year for Leckie and Uncle Jack xxx

Naturally it got us thinking and we very quickly perked up when we thought about our own fairs.

Planning a wedding takes months and months of planning and organising and sometimes it can become utterly exhausting. Our own weddings were around 5 years ago and the change in the wedding industry in that time is just phenomenal.  If anything there’s too much inspiration these days!! Don’t get us wrong here. Magazines, Facebook pages and blogs are great immediate source of inspiration that can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home with a cuppa and jammie dodger.  However……..

Touch, feel, see and meet

The biggest advantage in attending a wedding fair is to be able to touch, feel and see your potential suppliers work.

Try on that dress, taste some cake, see a photographers albums and books…… You can begin building a rapport with the people who you may go on to invest in to put your wedding plans into reality.  You can’t do that on line -fact.  It’s so true that people buy with their eyes but what’s on a computer screen may not be quite the same as the real deal!!

 Discounts

Many exhibitors use a wedding fair to offer couples discounts if they book within a certain timescale. This is a serious advantage to attending a wedding fair – ker-ching!

Big or small

Ok so we’re biased but one thing we encourage our Brides to do is check out a fair’s exhibitor list first. Big fairs may offer a wide range of exhibitors but in our opinion a smaller boutique fair may offer you top quality exhibitors who are put off by the cost of exhibiting at massive shows.

It’s fun!

We just love soaking up the atmosphere of our fairs. Meeting and greeting Brides, Grooms, their family and guests. Everyone is so happy!! Our mission is to provide Brides with top quality, independent vintage inspired wedding suppliers in a friendly and vibrant atmosphere.

We really enjoy putting together our fairs and put a great deal of time and effort into them. Most of all, they are for you the Bride and your plans for your wedding. 

Plans for our next fair in Birmingham on 22nd April are shaping up really well. We’re gathering a list of over 40 stylish, creative and inspiring exhibitors, some old, some new, who will not fail to impress you.

It’s fair to say that vintage inspired weddings have become extremely popular over the last few years with vintage china, birdcage veils and bunting featuring in many.

Vintage style is easily described as timeless and glamorous which is why it’s so popular as a ‘theme’ to draw inspiration from. It also covers many eras with each one having it’s own very different style.

A Quick Journey Through The Eras

The 20′s saw the rise of flapper dresses, cloche hats and wreath style headpieces. Grooms wore dapper pin stripe doublebreasted suits topped with a fedora hat. Bouquets were large and elaborate and art deco was the design of the day.

Move on to the 30′s and dresses became shorter and birdcage veils made an appearance.

Wartime weddings in the 40′s were understandably understated due to rationed resources. Make do and mend was the order of the day and 2 piece bridal suits were often seen.

1950′s sees pin up style with gorgeous prom style dresses. Think teddy boys and the rise of rock and roll.

There’s so much inspiration that you can draw from vintage eras so we’ll be breaking it down through the decades, going into each era in more detail for you.

As wedding colours go, peach has previously been thought of as, well not de rigeur! Imagine peach nylon Bridesmaid dresses with big puff sleeves. 

Ghastly……..!!!!!!!

That doesn’t mean to say that peach is off limits.  Just recently we’ve seen some beautiful vintage inspired ideas that incorporate peach and coral very nicely indeed.

So it seems peach is much more versatile than previously thought and very pretty indeed. Bring on the peach! ♥

Yummy Little Cakes based in the East Midlands is one of our previous exhibitors and run by the ever so lovely and lively Natalie O’Dowd. In celebration of Yummy Little Cakes’ first (very) successful year of trading, this shoot was put together to provide girly vintage and oh so English inspiration.

Fortunately these days there are great resources to be found to assist you in putting together your magical day. The internet and wedding blogs being perhaps the most used ;- )

Planning a wedding can be a mammouth task and even those deciding on a long engagement will find them getting slightly stressed at times.  There’s a venue, ceremony, frocks, crocks, underwear, overwear, cars, cakes, invites, rings, wedding list, accessories, presents, honeymoon, hen do, photographer, videographer……….and more!

One of the ways you can pass over some of this stress is to recruit a wedding planner. Professional, knowledgeable, friendly and creative, they can help you plan your day and even be there on the day to ensure it runs like clockwork. The amount of time and effort you will save may be VERY worthwhile! When you’ve had a chance to think about some themes or colours then you may like to visit a wedding fair to meet some potential suppliers. Often they give discounts if you book on the day (a top tip!) Our next fair is on the 22nd April 2012 at 11.30am at The centennial Centre in Birmingham. So, what is ‘Vintage Chic?’  For a few years now vintage weddings have become more popular. That’s not to say they are now run of the mill. Oh no siree far from it! Vintage covers any era from say 1920′s – 1970′s. You may want to incorporate an era as part of your wedding in a subtle way for instance a vintage inspired lace wedding dress complete with a birdcage veil instead of a long flowing one. Your cake may have some lace icing piped on it. You may go for using vintage china and cake stands on your wedding breakfast tables instead of white plain china and decorate your venue with bunting. So if vintage is your thing then save the date and come and see us.

I’ve had a lovely day today spending some time with Cathy Lavictoire (aka little Sis!) in her gorgeous shop Simply Chic in Worcester.

Christmas is officially on its way and this weekend in Worcester it’s the annual Victorian fair which sees lots of stalls along the New Street and Friar Street where Cathys shop is located.

She has been really busy preparing for the fair and the Christmas season with some gorgeous gifts, stocking fillers and decorations.

The stock is a mixture of lovely brands like Bath House and Pip Studio and also handmade gifts and decorations sourced locally.

Today we are featuring another previous exhibitor Tallulahs Trinkets who us based in rural Worcestershire but has internet presence so able to cover the UK.

Tallulah’s Trinkets is a small business with incredibly high standards and was  created by Annie Nicholls.  Each and every piece is designed and created using only the highest standard of components including Swarovski crystals and original vintage jewellery.

Annie has been very busy working from home in Worcestershire designing, creating, wiring & beading to bring you an exclusive range of individual handmade treasures including bridal tiaras, jewellery, hairpins and combs. Individually created pieces range in style and boldness.
